The Regiment

Constituted 23 May 1836

The 2d Cavalry Regiment was constituted on 23 May 1836 as the 2nd Regiment of Dragoons, raised by Act of Congress to fight the Second Seminole War. It has fought in every major American conflict since — from the Florida swamps to the Mexican frontier, from Gettysburg to the Argonne, from Normandy to the Fulda Gap, from 73 Easting to the Stryker formations of today.

Today the Regiment is stationed at Rose Barracks, Vilseck, Bavaria — the U.S. Army's only forward-deployed Stryker regiment in Europe.

The Association

The first unit-based Veteran organization in America

Founded in the late 19th century by Civil War–era troopers of the Regiment, the 2d Cavalry Association is the first and oldest Veteran organization in the United States established around a military unit. Its oral-history tradition directly inspired Service Alliance's Veteran Voices platform.

The Association moderates the contributions to this regimental calendar — descendants, border-watch veterans, Dragoon families, and regimental historians all route their submissions through Association editors before publishing.

The 2d Cavalry calendar is the first populated lineage in The Campaign. Every U.S. military unit — Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard — will have the same instrument for the same purpose: any Veteran, past or present, can see what happened on any day in their unit's history.
